Assignment:
Rossco attends a young person's recreation program. Today he has seemed his normal self - he has joined in with activities and chatted with the staff and other young people. As he leaves the centre he goes over to Liana, one of the program workers, and says 'See you Liana. Today might be the day that I suicide'. Liana is surprised by the comment and thinks he is probably joking so she responds 'Yeah sure - looks like a nice day for killing yourself'. Rossco leaves the Centre without any more conversation between them.
Later that afternoon, Kina, one of Liana's colleagues, told her the story of how Rossco came from a wealthy family but his father lost all their money gambling. Liana asked for more information on the background of his story and Kina offered to fill her in over coffee at their favourite brunch café.
Over the next few weeks Rossco continues to say 'Today might be the day that I suicide' when he says goodbye to Liana. She thinks this is really odd behaviour and asks him to stop saying this to her - but he continues. Liana thinks he probably has some mental health issues and decides to book him in to a medical practitioner for a mental health assessment. She sends off the details in a referral so the doctor is aware of Rossco's strange behaviour. Next time Rossco turns up to the Centre she lets him know the details of the appointment. Rossco looks very surprised and asks her why he needs to see a doctor.
Q1. In the second paragraph in the scenario above, what problem is demonstrated by this discussion between the two colleagues, what is wrong about the setting that Liana and Kina are discussing client information?
Q2. In the third paragraph in the scenario above, identify the problem with Liana's action. If she thought Rossco needed a mental health assessment, what should she have done instead? What has Liana done that has legal complications? and what would have been a better client centred approach?
