Helena - I have a little bit of gemba walk experience. I was introduced to the gemba walk in a previous class in my Bachelor's program. We were taught what a gemba walk was and then we had to perform one for our current job. I enjoyed doing the gemba walk because for me as a manger it helped get some insight as to how my organization was running and the work the people were doing on the inside. According to Lopresti (2018), research says that gemba walks help to practice engaged leadership, create employee buy in and helps management adapt to the work of the employees they are observing. I agree with the research a lot because of the fact that I conducted a gemba walk and felt as though I achieved these three different points. I felt like it was a good way for me to see from a ground level as well as engage with my team and allow my team to trust that I understand what they are dealing with. I also feel it was beneficial for analyzing your workplace.
Sendy - My experience using the gemba walks has been a very good experience for me when it came to my organization. So many managers or leaders tend to stay behind the scene and not really going on how their employees feels when it comes to the workplace. Being an example as a manager i love to be hands on with employees, I always like to learn new things and that''s the reason why while being hands on with my patients and my staffs. My team''s and I were able to see what was really going on and being able to find a solution to improve the organization. According to kanbanize " Gemba walk : Where the real work happens" Its initial purpose is to allow managers and leaders to observe the actual work process, engage with employees, gain knowledge about the work process and explore opportunities for continuous improvement. I do agree because being able to improve your organization the higher management teams need to be more involved with the actual work. We have to remember that if the employees are not happy, the company will not run well. Because there will be so many errors that can be prevented. Overall we have to make sure that our employees are happy or feel valued within the company.
Skaira - The most important idea of the Gemba walk is that leaders and managers at all levels regularly attend workshops and participate in the search for unnecessary events. When they observed, Gemba was not an opportunity to find insects that walked. Now is not the time to implement the policy (perhaps due to security problems or serious violations) (Dana, 2015). Using the approach of Gemba step by step, employees will close and resistance to change will quickly increase. In addition to this, for the purpose of making things faster, safer, easier, and simpler, I have learned that Gemba walk is responsible for promoting mutual respect and interests at an extensive level. When using the Gemba walk, it is necessary for the person to prepare a list in advance. This list will help you concentrate and block your work. The list should include questions that will help you better understand the process that you are going to observe. Your question may vary according to the theme of your Gemba walk. On the other hand, it is one the most effective approaches that disseminates the concept of teamwork, alongside highlighting the importance of collaboration and communication.
Alicia - According to DuPree (2014), leaders of healthcare can accomplish multiple goals by using the Gemba method as it allows them to grasp a fundamental understanding of the place of the issue, contributing factors, results, etc.
My experience with the Gemba walk method began during the start of this program. I utilized this strategy to identify issues in front desk operations that were occurring within my place of employment. By putting myself in, "the real place", I was able to pinpoint the reasons as to why the process of our TeleVox reports had become convoluted. Medical receptionists were having to alternate between two specialty offices due to teammates'' leave of absences, ; this was leaving teammates entitled to the reports regardless of the department they were working at, that day. Because of this, reports were getting shuffled, lost, re-worked and thus, resulting in frustrated patients and stressed/bickering teammates.
With the sector as ever-changing as it is, I would definitely need to agree with supporting research that the Gemba walk is a key tool for leaders within the work place. In any case, I feel it is imperative that operations'' teams practice and hold different methods such as the Gemba to continuously help them assess, and improve their work processes. Methods such as lean and six-sigma are also used to implement improvements using different tactics that can lead to improved waiting time, inventory, deficits, profit, preventative measures and more (NEJM Catalyst, 2018).
