According to the article, there are three principles of research and the writing process:

The purpose of academic writing is to generate and communicate new knowledge and new ideas.Academic writers write "from sources." This means that new ideas, conclusions, and theories are created on the basis of existing ideas and existing research.Claim: "[T]he making of new knowledge is a social process, undertaken by intellectual communities."
What happens within such a community to create new knowledge?What is an example of one social community you are involved in? How is knowledge exchanged to create new information and ideas within these specific communities? Consider the following quote in responding to the question: "Change in human understanding of difficult problems and issues takes place over time. By researching those problems and issues and by discussing what they find with others, writers advance their community's understanding and knowledge."
David Bartholomae is quoted as saying that new students have to "invent the university."
What might this mean?
Describe the character Joe in Thomas King's story Joe the painter and the deer land massacre. Explain how he thinks about indigenous people in detail.
Include an effective introduction that gives a general overview of the topic for the reader. Have a thesis statement that indicates the main idea of the essay?
