Question 1.What happens in the scene that Gerd Gemu¨nden describes as the turning point in The Headless Woman? (This is a moment in the film that prompts Vero to change her account of what happened on the road.) Describe the scene carefully, paying close attention to atmosphere (lighting, sound), point of view, focus, and framing. Be sure to use these formal film terms in your description. Refer to lecture 5.3 if you aren't sure how to use these terms in your analysis. What makes this scene important in your view? How do you interpret its significance? What is something Gemu¨nden says about the scene that you found interesting? Cite the text to support your response, include the page number.

Question 2.There are a lot of interesting parallels between Caché and The Headless Woman. Vero and Georges are both confronted with a situation in the present that brings back feelings of guilt and anxiety from an earlier moment. We learn many specific details about Georges's past, whereas Vero's past remains hazy. Nonetheless, we see how each character behaves when implicated in some kind of wrongdoing. Last week you wrote about Georges' relationships to other people in his family. Some of you noted perceptively, that while Anne is angry with Georges for lying to her, she doesn't challenge his account of Majid's death. The Headless Woman focuses on the way Vero behaves after leaving the scene of a car accident, but also shows us how her family reacts to her strange behavior. Describe a detail or moment in the film where someone close to Vero reacts or makes a decision to do something that you found revealing. Relate this moment to the dream that Lucrecia Martel says inspired the film in the interview in lecture 5.2. How do you understand her interpretation of the dream as it relates to the moment you've chosen to write a,bout?

Question 3.Water, mirrors, reflective glass are three visual or narrative tropes that recur throughout The Headless Woman. Choose a moment in the film that occurs after the opening sequence we analyzed in lecture 5.3 where you noticed the importance of this element in the film. Describe it carefully and explain how you understand its significance. Embed a screen shot to illustrate your response.
