Question: Vaccine hesitancy and how we reach "herd immunity" Intro: We vaccinate both to protect ourselves, but also to protect those around us. A population needs vaccination rates of 80 to 90% to stop community spread of a respiratory disease (although lower rates will slow the spread. But there are too many people who are hesitant to get the vaccine at this time to reach herd immunity. This isn't a new issue-- there has been an intentional misinformation campaign to get people to turn down measles vaccine and HPV vaccine, and that is endangering lives. Where did the anti-vax movement come from? What allows it to take root?
