Problem

What great occupational therapy interventions can you use for this older adult male client: After reviewing the ICE Learning video, I noticed that the client demonstrated some functional movement while sweeping the floor using a broom. However, the client's left-hand grasp weakness may limit his ability to perform certain tasks. During the activity, the client maintained an upright position, indicating the use of core muscles and lower extremities. The client's right arm was primarily used for sweeping, involving various movements of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, fingers, and thumb. The client also demonstrated trunk rotation, a movement that requires the use of the oblique abdominal muscles. Furthermore, the client's weight shifting and possible steps taken while sweeping involved hip, knee, and ankle movements on the right side. Overall, while there are some limitations in the client's functional movement and left-hand grasp, the client demonstrated some strength and range of motion on the right side. Occupational therapy intervention could be beneficial for the client to address the limitations and improve their overall performance.
