Although nobody listens to everything (i.e., every type and genre of music), many people answer, "I like everything/anything but ____" when asked "what kind of music do you like?" While it is common to dislike certain music styles, research suggests that when people actively avoid a genre of music, a cultural statement is implied.

What genre(s) of music do you dislike? Begin by writing your "everything but" genre and include why you think it is your "everything but."

NOTE: This is a discussion about sound, not lyrics, so state the sonic reasons. You must include at least two examples of the genre (with YouTube links in a Turabian formatted citation), and you must use technical terminology regarding the elements of music to explain your reasons. Also, consider how the people who surround you influence your musical tastes? Lastly, discuss how you think the music to which you listen informs your worldview (note that this does not instruct you to discuss how your worldview informs your listening practices).

This assignment is about sound, so use technical language and be specific. You will lose significant points if you base your post and/or replies on lyrics, perceived moral issues, or statements such as "I don't know, I just don't like it" and "it has nothing to do with people around me." Why? Because any genre or style you discuss also has examples with Christian lyrics (or lyrics with which you agree, if you are not a Christian), yet you would probably still dislike the music.

Your goal is not to challenge the prompt, and this topic has been thoroughly researched by musicologists, psychologists, and sociologists: The significant majority of any person's musical preferences are not innate, they are primarily influenced by the people around you and the information you've consumed throughout your life. The goal of this exercise is to gain a better understand of your musical identity, which you will explore by analyzing the sounds to which you have an aversion.

2. This can be a touchy subject, so imagine you are discussing this with a person for whom you have a deep affection.
