Discussion : Contemporary Social Movements

Research at least 2 contemporary social movements. Read or watch videos that can provide information about the movement's mission, goals, and strategies. Once completed, please address the following questions:

1. Do you feel that the strategies used (occupation, disruption, etc.) are effective techniques for social change? Explain.

2. What forms of resistance do activists within these movements face on the micro and macro levels? From what or whom?

3. Do you believe that current social movements will reach their objectives/success? Why or why not?

Discussion

After watching BOTH TED talks videos, describe an "ow", "wow" AND "pow" moment from the VIDEOS. An "ow" moment is something that we hear for the first time that makes us feel uncomfortable or question what is being said.

The "pow" moment is something that we had not heard before and that hits us and makes us think about something in a new way. The "wow" moment is something that we may have heard before and when we hear it again it makes even more sense.

This discussion will need to be a little longer perhaps because you need to describe one of each and why the moment made you feel that way. You also need to respond to two classmates.
