Case Scenario
There has been a recent multi-neighborhood foodborne outbreak involving E.coli (Escherichia coli) in Sentinel City. Sixty elementary school age children were out sick this week. Several adults and children from all four neighborhoods have been evaluated at local clinics and the emergency room with complaints of abdominal pain, sudden severe diarrhea, nausea, and fatigue.
Task
A. What form of formal mass communication would be most effective for educating the public about the causes, symptoms, and prevention of E.coli in the city?
B. Use government websites or scholarly literature to support your rationale for the mass communication method you select.
C. Develop a newspaper script appropriate for adults and teen related to the case scenario that includes causes, symptoms, and prevention.
D. Discuss education Observations : Number of public or private school. Physical condition of the schools Is there a public library? Do children walk or bus to school? Do parents transport their children to school? Public and/or private daycare centers or preschools. K-12 and higher education options/programs offered .
E. Examine three recommendations that may help the mayor strengthen the educational system in Sentinel City
F. When preparing information to share with the community, consider demographics of each neighborhood and health literacy.
