The original Ferris wheel, built by George Ferris, had a radius of 38 m and a mass of 1.9 X 106 kg. Assume that all of its mass was uniformly distributed along the rim of the wheel. If the wheel was initially rotating at 0.05 rev/min, what constant torque had to be applied to bring it to a full stop in 30 s? What force exerted on the rim of the wheel would have given such a torque? books shows: 1.26x10^4N.
