Assessment item - Research Proposal Presentation
Requirements - You are required to present the research proposal either through collaborate online, or in person or some other arrangement with approval from your tutor. The presentation should be supported by PowerPoint slides, outline the research plan and demonstrate your communication skills.
The hospitality industry faces a high percentage of employee turnover and the issue is dominant in the identified restaurant as well.
The problem that will be addressed in the undertaken study is associated with the identification of the factors that play a contributory role in the employee turnover, which is voluntary in nature.
It is important to address the issue, as through the understanding of the factors the managers of the hospitality industry can come up with better human resource practices and implement the same. While better decision-making can be achieved by the human resource department it will be possible for the employees to enjoy better working conditions.
Overarching research aim - The overarching aim of the research is to provide the manager of the restaurant X with an insight into the factors that contribute to the high rate of turnover of employees and recommend retention programs accordingly.
Through the focus on this specific aim it would be possible to identify the extensive range of internal as well as external factors that have an impact on the employees of the hospitality industry. Additionally, with the focus on the retention programs that can be introduced it would be possible to provide a solution to the manager of the restaurant X being taken into consideration.
Research questions(s) -
The research questions that will serve as the directive principles of the undertaken research are as follows:
- What are the factors that influence the turnover rate of employees in the hospitality industry?
- Which factors, whether internal or external have a higher dominance on the employee turnover rate in the restaurants?
- How and what kind of effective retention programs be introduced and implemented to reduce the turnover rate of employees in the hospitality industry?

Through the review of the above given article it would be easy to understand the employees belonging to Generation Y and the factors associated with their leaving the job and not returning back to the industry. The research helps in confirming that the Generation Y individuals require a challenging job and they do not consider hospitality industry as the long-term career option.
