1 What is the current national unemployment rate and reporting date?
As of February 2023, the unemployment rate is 3.6 percent
2. Look at Table A (table links at bottom of Economic Situation Summary), in the section "Total, 16 years and over" pick a demographic group that you fall into (if possible). What is the current unemployment rate for that group? How has it changed over the past year? Compare/contrast it to one of the other groups.
3. List the unemployment rates by education level. Does the unemployment rate indicate that there is additional value in getting a degree beyond the expected income increase? Explain.
Back on the main page again under "Latest Numbers", the icon to the right (it looks like a graph) next to the "Unemployment Rate" link will take you to historical data. Once you're on the historic date page, change the "from" date to 30 years ago.
4. Discuss the trends over the last 30 years. How many cycles do you see? When did they start and end? What similarities and differences do you see to the cycles over time?

5. What is the current unemployment rate in California? How does it compare to the national number from #1? Which labor group had the biggest gain over the last 12 months? Which one had the biggest loss?
6. Pick one other state and compare/contrast their unemployment rate to ours over the last 6 months (the range given on the main page). Provide a written explanation in addition to the data. What factors do you think contribute to the similarities/differences?
