Discussion Post: Political Science and Economics
Instructions
Respond to either Option I OR Option II:
Option I: Political Science
Question 1) Consider a time you were involved in a political process (advocating to change a law, running for office, organizing around a candidate or issue, writing letters, protesting, voting, etc.). Provide a brief (2-3 sentence) overview of your participation and why you became involved. What were you hoping to accomplish? How might a political scientist explain your behavior?
Question 2) Consider the topic you chose to focus on for your final project in this course. Identify at least one local, state, or national-level policy or law that affects your topic. What effect does this policy have on the topic? What process was involved in creating this policy and who was involved?
Option II: Economics
Question 1) Think of a time when you were deciding whether to make a large purchase. What factors did you consider as you were making this decision? How might economic concepts like opportunity, cost, and scarcity apply to your decision?
Question 2) Based on what you read this week, do you think that corporations, governments, and other large-scale social groups make economic decisions based on the same set of factors that you make your personal decisions on? Why or why not? Provide an example from the required materials or your own research to back up your ideas.
