A 51-year-old female, Sylvia Gonzales, is at the office for a 3-month return check for newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetes. She appears overweight and is snacking on a bag of potato chips and chocolate milk when you take her into the exam room. She states she has taken the medication she was given for her "sugar" and she knows the doctor wants to do a special "sugar test" this time. Her medication list includes Januvia, 100 mg daily, which is a medication to help lower her blood sugar.
