Case: Tina is a thirteen-year-old freshman who recently found out she was pregnant. She is afraid to tell her mother that her step-brother, John has been sexually abusing her ever since he and his father moved in with them. The sexual advances started out as "harmless flirting" and over a six month period escalated to cunnilingus, then digital penetration of the vagina, and then penile penetration of the vagina. Tina goes to great lengths to avoid her step-brother but her mother tells her that she is not making an effort to be a "family." Tina has made several attempts to talk to her mother but is afraid that she will be blamed for breaking up the new family. Tina's mother blames her for her father walking out on them when Tina was only three years only. Desperate and alone Tina runs away to stay with an Aunt that has always been kind to her. When the Aunt calls Tina's mother and tells her about Tina's pregnancy by the step-brother, the mother calls Tina a slut and tells the Aunt that she can "keep the tramp."
