Discussion Board

According to chapter five one purpose of ethical thinking is to determine whether and to what extent our intuitions of right and wrong, in the form of principles of action, can be incorporated into a unified moral theory.

You have read about issues related to moral relativism and egoism, as well as the more coherent moral theories such as utilitarianism, Kantian formalism, and, finally, Aristotelian virtue ethics.

Since both relativism and egoism in all their various forms suffer from the same general problem which is their own internal incoherence I would like for you to focus your attention in this DB on the three main ethical theories.

In this DB please talk with one another about which ethical theory you think best deals with your own moral intuitions and say something about why the theory is better than its alternatives. Please use the formal arguments found within the text to defend your position but do so using your own words.
