Question: The company hit some hard times (or, perhaps, mismanagement and over-hiring). Either way, there's new leadership and they are restructuring. And that translates to a company-wide reduction in force, effective at the end of the month. Sally went out on disability about a month ago. It turns out that Sally's position is being eliminated.

.a) To what extent is she protected from being laid off? Explain your legal-HR point of view (POV) on this in preparation for your meeting with her boss. What, if anything can/should be communicated to the employee. As with all on leave employees - she was encouraged to be off of the company emails. Her work was being covered by others.

.b) How would your answer differ, if at all, if Sally was out on Maternity?
