In furtherance of this objective, the Truman administration helped establish an International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (The World Bank) and an International Monetary Fund, both headquartered in Washington, D.C. Provided immunity under international law, these institutions have intersecting missions to further strengthen and consolidate the ties of the postwar international political economy.
