Assignment - Literacy Narrative
Introduction and Pre-writing: A literacy narrative is a means for an author to discuss, describe, analyze, and/or explain his/her relationship to experiences with writing, education, and literacy development. In a literacy narrative, it is common for authors to address obstacles and challenges that arose along their journeys toward literacy and to discuss how those obstacles and challenges impacted their educational outlook, growth and perspective. Often a literacy narrative will discuss how authors have overcome challenges that they faced along the path toward becoming a writer, or the path toward literacy and education.
As you begin writing, reflect upon your past experiences with education, literacy, and writing.
What experiences in your past brought you to this current journey of attending college and seeking your college degree?
What experiences shaped the way you perceive and look at education?
What experiences shaped the way you perceive yourself as a writer?
Have your experiences with writing been more positive or negative?
Who were your literacy sponsors throughout your life? What role did your literacy sponsors play in shaping your entrance into literacy?
Do you have a fixed or growth mindset when it comes to education? How might a growth mindset help me move forward in my college career?
The Prompt -
Write a four (hopefully closer to five) page essay that discusses your literacy experiences.
In this essay, address how your past experiences with writing and literacy has impacted the way(s) in which you now perceive yourself as a college writer.
You may focus on either a positive experience(s), or a negative experience(s), or both a set of positive and negative experiences.
As you discuss your past experience, remember to be detailed, specific, and descriptive/visual, your reader will value your conveyance of the details.
The goal or objective of this essay is for you to evaluate how your past experiences with writing and literacy has lead to your current outlook and perspective, and beliefs, pertaining to your abilities in writing.
