Assignment: Professionals in your industry are writing about and/or discussing current industry issues. Paying attention to these professional discussions is one of the best ways to strengthen your understanding of industry standards and to ensure you stay connected to the evolutionary changes taking place. The best way to begin seeking out this information is to look for a topic you find interesting. This assignment is designed to do just that. You will research and identify three particular professional industry news website, dig into the issue/topic, and identify the key contributors to the discussion. The purpose is to focus on a professional discussion, not one marketed to consumers.
Read or watch news stories, interviews, blog posts, or a discussion from or featuring one or more notable industry professionals. These should be an article or interview targeted towards other industry pros, not consumers. If you are unsure, scanning the comments section for a couple seconds should give you a significantly clearer idea. Once you have determined the target audience, answer all the questions on the worksheet with as much detail as possible for each of three separate articles.
First impressions:
What is the nature of this site? Is this an industry-oriented site or a site for consumers? How can you tell?
What product, company, or individual is the subject? What is the issue being discussed?
What credentials or industry significance does the issue have? Is it so well known it needs no introduction to other industry professionals? What evidence of importance or credibility can you reference?
Content:
Does the writer seem competent in discussing this subject? How can you tell?
Are industry-specific words being used? Consider verbiage. Are they being defined for members of the general audience who might be reading this? Are terms being used that you don't yet know?
What is the level of knowledge that the writer(s) assumes the readers to have? How much background information is given?
What is the potential impact of this story to your industry?

What is the level of discussion in the comments/feedback section? Is there a professional tone? Are obvious fans/amateurs inserting themselves into the discussion? Is this article being shared on social media?
