Question: Etiquette refers to the behaviors that are considered appropriate and acceptable by polite society. They include things like forms of dress, speech, table manners, and when/how to use humor. All places of work expect their employees to adhere to certain rules and a code of conduct. Breaking these rules--to violate etiquette--can spell bad news for employees and may impact their chances of advancing within the organization and/or career.

identify four (4) etiquette "don'ts" that you feel employees should try to avoid as much as possible. Explain why you find these don'ts to be particularly concerning.

Select one (1) of the scenarios below and answer the question(s) in that scenario.
Scenario # 1: Mandy recently started working as a sales associate at a large clothing store, and she is very happy with her new position. The company has prohibited employees from keeping their cell phones on them during working hours because it serves as a distraction and may come across as poor customer service. However, Mandy notices that all the other sales associates do it. They check their messages and texts throughout the day. Mandy is thinking of doing the same and believes that it can't be a problem since her coworkers are doing it. You are a long-term friend, and Mandy asks for your opinion on this situation. What would you advise her to do?

Scenario # 2: Brian and Leonard are coworkers at a national drugstore and they are both responsible for stocking the shelves. One day they started talking about their jobs. They are not happy with their new supervisor and the new hours they have been given. Brian tells Leonard that he has already started applying to other drugs stores for another job and advises Leonard to do the same. Leonard says that his strategy is to ignore the new supervisor because he is incompetent and will probably be fired soon. As they are talking, customers are passing by and listening to their conversation. What etiquette rules have Brian and Leonard broken and what would you suggest they do differently?
