A member shall practice public relations according tothe highest professional standards.
• A member shall deal fairly and honestly with the communications media and the public.
• A member shall practice the highest standards of honesty, accuracy, integrity and truth, and shall not knowingly disseminate false or misleading information.
• A member shall deal fairly with past or present employers/clients, with fellow practitioners, and with members of other professions.
• A member shall be prepared to disclose the name of their employer or client for whom public communica-tions are made and refrain from associating themselves with anyone that would not respect such policy.
• A member shall protect the confidences of present, former and prospective employers/clients.
• A member shall not represent conflicting or competing interests without the express consent of those concerned, given after a full disclosure of the facts.
• A member shall not guarantee specified results beyond the member's capacity to achieve.
• Members shall personally accept no fees, commissions, gifts or any other considerations for professional services from anyone except employers or clients for whom the services were specifically performed. Tell the truth.
• Release only information that you are confident is true and accurate.
• Answer all calls from the media, even from those reporters you do not like to deal with.
• Treat each encounter with an individual reporter as confidential.
• Live up to all commitments made to the media.
• If you know the source of information the media is looking for, send them there.
• Be civil when dealing with media, for its own sake and in the hopes the same consideration will be given to you.
• Understand the law as it affects communications and your industry.
• Try to find a balance between maintaining the privacy of information, particularly personal information, that you are privy to, and the media's legal and ethical access to it. Where appropriate, try to accommodate both (e.g., ask an individual for permission to release privateinformation, while ensuring he or she is aware of the consequences of doing so).
• Protect your client's and your spokesperson's best interests when putting them in front of the media. Ensure they are well briefed, well supported and cognizant of all the risks and rewards they may face

1.) as a consumer -- which of the ethics listed above are the most important? (Which ones should businesses, organizations, and/or governments follow?) Choose just 1 or 2 and explain their importance.
2.) Now think about your field of study that is networking-- imagine that in the future career you are asked to take on some media relations duties -- perhaps you are helping to develop marketing materials or ads, posting on the company's Instagram or twitter feed, or perhaps you must act as a contact for the local newspaper reporter. Which ethics will be most important for you to follow then? Will it make your job easier or more difficult? Explain why or why not.
3.) Finally, think of a product that you either use or avoid for ethical reasons or because of the company's reputation. Explain why. What ethics does the company display or ignore?
