Case Study: Watch the following movie "Earthquake (1974) - PG" write a brief review of 1000 a word count of the environmental science issue(s) addressed.
Remember, in some of these movies the environmental issues depicted and/or described are not as obvious as in others. So, you may need to look behind the action for the message.
Questions: In your review, make sure to address the following:
Define what environmental message(s) or lesson(s) is being communicated to the audience.
What did you feel you learned from the movie with respect to environmental science?
Try to draw out of the movie and into your discussion as many course concepts you can that relate to sustainability, stewardship, and sound science themes.
Some of these movies are so fantastical that some, if not most, of their plot depicts extremely exaggerated environmental issues, events, and themes. Other movies try to depict environmental themes with as high degree of realism as possible, yet still make mistakes in their depiction that are noticeable to only the keen and educated observer. In either event, discuss any observed mistakes and/or intentionally exaggerates descriptions and/or presentations of scientific principles and concepts in the movie.
Note when the movie was made. If the movie is more than 10 years old, discuss if the message is still relevant based on contemporary social, economic, and scientific views.
