Question - One thing about accounting, everything must tie. For example, Net Income is the same number at the end of the Income Statement as it is on the cash flow reconciliation for the Statement of Cash Flows, and the Retained Earnings Statement. This is also true for Cash and Equity. This is called articulation. As such it is difficult for any statement to be manipulated. In the case of depreciation, it is subtracted from net income, so it is a needed add back to net income as it does NOT affect cash flow. What else is not cash but affects income?
