Project Initiation

Ehsan Ali looked around his new office. He couldn't believe that he was the executive of Accounting Information System at T-Tech Electronics, his favourite consumer electronics retail store. He always bought his new gadjets such as Sony Playstation, Sony wireless headphone and Blue-ray DVD player here. T-Tech Electronics had started as a single electronic store in 2011 in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The store was started by Mrs. Jamilah Idrus in a small shop next to UiTM Campus in Jalan Othman, Petaling Jaya. After two years, T-Tech Electronics had grown the store to a chain of five stores in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Next day, Mrs. Jamilah Idrus, the Chief Executive Officer of T-Tech Electronics walked into his office. "Good morning, how's its going Ehsan"? "Good morning Mrs. Jamilah, since I am new here, I've got to get through the entire corporate strategic IT plan to tailor-up with the vision and mission of T-Tech Electronics". "I didn't know we had a strategic IT plan," Mrs. Jamilah teased. "Anyway, what I came in here for is to give you some good news. I have decided to make you the project manager for a project that is crucial to our corporate survival".

"Me?" Ehsan replied. "But I just got here." "Who is better than you? You have a different perspective, new ideas. You aren't chained down by the past and by the T-Tech's way of doing things, like the rest of us. Not that it matters, since you don't have a choice. Executive team and I both agree that you are the best person for the job" said Mrs. Jamilah. "So", Ehsan asked, "what's the project about?". "Well," Mrs. Jamilah began, "The executive team has decided that the number one priority we have right now is to not only survive but to thrive and to prosper, and the way to do that is to have effective and efficient inventory management system because at this particular moment, our stock system having so much problem. We are calling the project "Zero Problem Stocks System (ZePSS) " said Mrs. Jamilah. "Seriously, I can see how something like this would be good for T-Tech Electronics and I can see how IT would play an important, no, crucial role in making something like this happen. Ok, then, let's get started" Ehsan replied.
