Your task is to identify ONE contemporary global challenge and critically assess the efficacy of international responses to this challenge. The focus of the assignment will be one clear argument or thesis about the effectiveness of international efforts to address the challenge you have chosen to discuss.
the assignment will need to do the following:
1. Identify and explain the global challenge you have chosen to investigate. Be sure to consider the historical origins and key aspects of this challenge, and clearly explain what makes this a matter of global concern. That is, how does this problem affect states and citizens around the world? Why does this problem require global coordination and cooperation?
2. Identify and critically discuss two or three specific strategies that have been implemented by the international community to address the challenge you are discussing. What efforts have been made to reduce the negative impacts or 'solve' this problem globally? How effective have these efforts been up to this point?
What barriers interfere with successfully addressing this challenge at a global level? How do forms of global interdependence create opportunities for effective cooperation?
3. Conclude by reflecting on how this global challenge might best be addressed moving forward. What specific actions or strategies should be taken at the local and global levels to successfully respond to or 'solve' this problem?
In addition, this assignment requires that you use a minimum of three outside resources to further inform your analysis. These resources can be peer-reviewed academic journals, textbooks or similar academic publications, government publications, copyrighted news sources and/or publications by recognized intergovernmental organizations (e.g. the United Nations) or global non-governmental organizations (e.g. Amnesty International, Genocide Watch)
Please note: non-peer-reviewed sites such as Wikipedia, blogs, and other non-copyrighted or personal web pages are not acceptable sources for this academic research assignment.
Format: The required format for Assignment #2 is a formal essay of approximately 750 - 1000words
This format requires that you formulate a central argument or thesis, which you will prove throughout the body of your paper with two or three distinct, clearly articulated supporting arguments. Remember to begin with a properly formatted introduction that states your thesis and supporting arguments clearly, and end with a properly formatted concluding paragraph that restates the thesis and supporting arguments you have developed in the body of your paper. Also, remember to use proper sentence and paragraph structure to organize your ideas, not point-form, bullet points or listing. No subtitles are required, though you may use them if they help you to organize your ideas.
