A 10-year-old boy who was brought to the hospital by his parents. The child's mother tells the emergency room nurse that the child has had a cough for the last 4 days within an increasing frequency, especially at night. The child has also been short of breath and needs an inhaler every hour. There is very little relief after each dose. The child has an increase respiratory rate of 36 breaths per minute. He is using his accessory muscles to augment his respiratory effort and wheezing.

The child's vital signs are: T101.0F (38.3C), heart rate: 124bpm, oxygen saturation at 90% via room air. The child also states that he has a stomach ache and has not eaten for 2 days. The parents state that their son is sensitive to pollen and dust and sometime he leaves his inhaler at home when he goes to school.
