Question: What effect did the AIDs epidemic of the 1980s have on San Francisco? What was the community response and the medical response to the epidemic in the city, especially around the Castro district? How was the AIDs epidemic politicized, and what danger did this precipitate? What can the AIDs epidemic teach us today about public health and politics? What differentiated the response to AIDs in a city like San Francisco? I know we didn't see evidence of how the rest of the nation responded, but why do you think SF had a different experience with regard to the community response?
