Gender, Race, and Work: Interview someone who works full-time. Analyze these interviews for aspects of gendered work processes that are discussed in the readings in week 10. In the interview, ask the following questions with appropriate follow-up questions to fully understand a person's work history:
- What is the title of your current job?
- How did you get this job? Why did you apply for a job with this company? What was the application process like?
- What education or skills did you have before getting this job? What work experience did you have before getting this job?
- What type of work do you perform? [Ask them to go through what they do, hour by hour, on a typical day at work.] How much time do you spend at work each week?
- How often do you have to answer your boss on a typical day?
- Does work ever cut into your personal time or time with your family? If so, how? Is your workplace flexible regarding your family's needs?
- Have you been promoted since you started working for this company? Why or why not? Do you think that your sex and/or race (or other factors) have ever affected your chances of being promoted?
- What was your previous job? Why did you leave it?
After you have done your interview, utilize two of the four articles from week 10 to agree or disagree with gender and race in the workplace.
