Case Study: Reflection Assignment (20%): Artifact Write-up and Presentation
Your Professional Learning Journey
Engaging in Reflective Practice is a valuable and necessary skill for ECEC professionals.
In this assignment, you will have the opportunity to creatively explore, understand and reflect on your learning experiences this semester. You will be asked to select an artifact (something tangible and real) and to bring it to class to discuss and share with your colleagues. The artifact should be something that represents your lens/perspective on the journey to becoming an early childhood educator. You should find something that demonstrates your most significant learning and growth in this course and/or how it represents you in your learning journey to become an ECE.
Students will sign up on the Google Document provided for one of two dates ( week 12 and week13). You are only required to attend the date which you are presenting .
There are twoparts to this assignment.
Artifact Write-up (10%): You will describe your artifact and its meaning/importance to you. The write-up should include your perspective on teaching and learning and its potential impact on your teaching practice as an early childhood educator (two pages). This will be loaded into Dropbox PRIOR to your presentation. Please include a photo of your artifact.
Artifact Presentations (10%): These will take place in class. The artifact presentations will take place in small groups (6-8 people per group). You will be required to bring your artifact to the class, and to be prepared to present its importance and relevance to you. You will share how your artifact represents your most significant learnings and growth in this course, and how it represents you in your learning journey to become an ECE. (5-7 mins per person).
While artifacts have many definitions, we ask you to consider an item that has significance to you: something that
has meaning to you,
represents your most significant learnings and growth in this course, and,
represents you in your learning journey to become an ECE.
Things to considerwhen choosing your artifacts.
Questions: Find something that may answer some of these questions, such as:
What does this artifact say about me? As a learner (student)? Educator (ECE)?
What type of educator am I becoming?
What type of educator do I want to become?
Your work experiences. Consider an experience (positive or negative) which you remember vividly that you believe will now make you a better ECE.
The best teacher: what and how did they teach you? Why do you consider them the 'best'? How will this make you a better teacher?
What are the knowledge, skills and values that you have that you hold in high regard?
Describe a professional situation that changed you.
