Homework: Sociology and Social Work Literature Review Worksheet
Identifying studies that are applicable to a social issue of interest and reviewing what other scholars have done in terms of their research design and research methods, will assist in the selection and refinement of your own research study. Complete the Literature Review Worksheet to complete this process and write your research study question.
Literature Search and Review Worksheet
In this section of the homework, you will use this worksheet to assist you in conducting research on the social issue you selected for this course. Look up scholarly articles from one of the databases in the GCU library about your selected social issue.
While reviewing the scholarly articles, you will identify studies that are applicable to the social issue you are interested in learning more about. Reviewing what other scholars have done in terms of their research design and research methods, this information will position you to propose your own research study.
Complete each section by answering the prompts. Turn in the worksheet for instructor feedback. Use the feedback to revise your research question, and proposed research methods.

Part B: Literature Review:
Next, use the research you have collected to complete the following:
Literature Review: Address the following in your literature review:
1) What does the literature say about your research topic? Review the research you gathered and summarize the findings of the articles. You can use the answers to the Literature Review Worksheet above to help you describe the findings of your research.
2) Summarize the overall gaps in the research of the studies you reviewed. Then discuss how your research proposal can fill the gaps in these current studies. (150 to 250 words). [Remember, you are looking for a gap in the current research that will guide the focus of your own research study proposal. Your research proposal should seek to fill in the gaps you noted in the current literature.]
Propose how you would conduct your study - (Think of this as a "rough draft" of your proposed research design and methods.)
In 100 to 250 words, discuss how you would propose to conduct this research study so that it answers your research question. Answer the following:Select a research design. Explain why this design will be a good approach to learning about your topic of interest.
Research Question: Keeping in mind your research design, formulate a research question that will guide the focus of your final research proposal paper.
