Minimum 300 word | Use a modified APA style ( Double space, 12 point font, reference and cite your sources so that I can check their accuracy.)

An important type of secondary group that is a source of affiliation for many people is Interest or Cause groups. They reflect our values, or might allow us to contribute to a 'cause' that is important to us. These are not social groups in the sense that we primarily belong because we receive social support from the group.

Using the list of interest groups in your content folder, select a group from the list that you already know or might some day want to join and do some research on the group you have chosen (they all have websites). Find out who tends to be the members of this group and what 'interests' they are promoting. You will also want to see how they use campaign contributions, or member/constituents (many have paid lobbyists) to put convince elected leaders to support their 'interest.'  There are many, many interest groups - this list has but a few.

After you learn about your interest group, address the following questions in your essay. Please include links to the sources of your information.

Importantly, do not assume that you know all that specific groups do - check out the available information.

So again, for your interest group find this information and in your essay, number the paragraphs with the question being addressed.

  1. Who tends to be the members of this group - who does the group represent?
  2. Do members pay dues or are they asked for donations and is there a specified amount?
  3. What does the group 'stand for'? (What is the cause or platform around which the group's members rally?)
  4. Does this group have a working 'mission', i.e. do they actually provide a service of some sort or are they all about promoting and lobbying for their cause?
  5. What 'interests' (policies and laws) does this group promote?
  6. How does the group use the dues or donations that members pay to further the interests of the group? (Do they have any paid lobbyists in DC or in state capitols?
  7. Does the interest group support political campaigns? [One source for this is https://www.opensecrets.org/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and put in the name of the interest group you are researching and then select Organization.]
  8. Generally - what did you learn - especially if it is not already covered in the questions you have already answered?
