The 18th century saw the rise of two very distinct periods in art: Rococo and Neoclassicism. While Rococo was very playful and associated with the aristocracy, Neoclassicism was more serious with an emphasis on civic values. This period also coincided with the American Revolution, the French Revolution, and the Haitian Revolution.
