Problem: What is a good response to the post below? What does being optimistic mean to you? Is this a good thing or an unrealistic goal? I think that being optimistic is being positive about something regardless of the situation. Even if some things are going wrong, being optimistic would mean that you are still thinking positively about the situation or finding some good in everything. I think that someone who never recognizes bad situations can be hard for someone like me to be around after a while. How do you think optimism influences health? I think that choosing to think positively about situations can help uplift your mood. As mentioned in the lecture, emotional health is being able to manage your emotions. Although I don't think you need to be fake, as in telling yourself everything is okay in a bad situation, being optimistic is a way of choosing to control your thoughts to help manage your emotions. Would you consider yourself an optimist or a pessimist? Is the glass half full or half empty? Some of my friends might call me a pessimist in some scenarios, but I think it depends on what the situation is. My close friends tend to want to do things that I might think are dangerous at times, like exploring a place in a sketchy area late at night. The way we think about things can be very different at times. Have you noticed any differences in your health that you can attribute to your positive or negative attitude? I always thought that you couldn't really do much to change your mind, thoughts, or emotions. But it seems like I have a lot more control than I thought, which has helped me out a lot. Choosing to think positively can help me make the best of any situation.
