Hypothetically put yourself in each scenario and answer each question to the best of your abilities. This exercise will help you practice asking people about their problems and emotions to help you learn to create solutions, not products.

Scenario 1: You are a female who cooks for your 6-member Mexican family with different tastes and dietary restrictions.  

  1. What does a typical week look like for you as someone who cooks every day for the whole family? When you cook for everyone, what is the step process for cooking for that many people in your family? How big are the lunches? How many different dishes are you making?
  2. What's the hardest part about your day in regards to cooking daily for your family? Portions? Dietary restrictions? Different tastes?  
  3. When you think about cooking every day for the whole family, why do emotions like frustration and anger come to mind?
  4. How can I solve my problem?
  5. Are there any possible product solutions?

Scenario 2: You are a female University student with anxiety who refuses to learn to drive so you take 30-minute rides from your Mother and Uncle to get to and from classes every day. 

  1. What does a typical week look like for you as someone who "commutes" every day to University?
  2. What's the hardest part about "commuting" to a different city? Gas money? Depending on others to get there? 
  3. When you think about "commuting" every day to University, what emotions come up for you? Sadness? Guilt? Shame?
  4. How can I solve my problem?
  5. Are there any possible product solutions?

Scenario 3: You are a male Immigrant in America who lost his job after the pandemic and are unable to get employed due to your status. 

  1. What does a typical week look like for you as someone who lost his job after the pandemic?
  2. What's the hardest part about losing monetary income due to Covid-19?
  3. When you think about losing your job after the pandemic, what emotions come up for you? Sadness? Anger? Desperation?  
  4. How can I solve my problem? 
  5. Are there any possible product solutions?
