Question: The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (the DSM) is a system for the classification of mental disorders. It is used by clinicians, researchers, psychiatric drug regulation agencies, health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and policy makers. The DSM-5 (current edition) is the most widely used diagnostic system for psychological disorders in the United States. Explore one problem that you imagine contributed to the need for the first development of this system in 1952. You may provide a hypothetical example, if you like.
