Annual Research Review: What is resilience within the social ecology of human development?
Michael Ungar, Mehdi Ghazinour, Jörg Richter
Social workers operate from a strengths-based perspective, recognizing not only that risks factors impact life course trajectories, but understanding that multi-systemic protective factors (e.g., presence of supportive caring adults, neighborhood cohesion, sense of belonging in the school environment, etc.) can positively enhance developmental outcomes and change risky life-course trajectories, leading to "resiliency", or an ability to "bounce forward", grow and change in desired ways.
After reading the articles and participating in the assignments, what do you think are the most important factors in resiliency?
