A colleague of mine shared this post with me, and I wanted to share it with you.
I have been asked before, "What if I'm really bad at what God has called me to do?" I think that God will sometimes call us to do things that we are inexperienced in or horrible at to grow us, stretch us, and cause us to rely on him more. For instance, God called Moses to deliver the Hebrews from Egyptian bondage. Moses thought that God was crazy because he was not a great public speaker, and God wanted him to confront Pharaoh in person. God then rebuked Moses for questioning him:
"Then the Lord said to him, 'Who has made man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak'" (Ex. 4:11-12, ESV).
God did allow Moses to let Aaron his brother speak in his place at first (Ex. 4:14-17), but Moses eventually spoke to Pharaoh without Aaron's help. God can turn our weaknesses into strengths for his glory, and at the same time, we also grow in ability and skill for the tasks that God has given us. So, we don't remain horrible at something that is God's purpose for us.
What do you think about this? Have any of you been called to something that you initially felt completely unprepared or unqualified for? How did you handle the initial stress and anxiety? How have you seen God work to equip you?
