Question: Now that you have read Wertheim's God, Women, and the New Physics and taken the quiz, watched The Handmaid's Tale and completed the film survey (unless you opted out of viewing the film), and explored some issues in more detail during our class meeting, you have the opportunity for additional discussion. In this forum, you can share your perspective on the reading and/or the film, ask questions for discussion or clarification, articulate further thoughts, and respond to your colleagues' questions and observations.
In case you are left with any questions about the reading or the film, please state them. (Posting that you have no questions is not a satisfactory response to this prompt.)
If there is anything that you find remarkable or problematic about the reading or the film that has not been addressed, please state it. (Posting that there is nothing that you find remarkable or problematic is not a satisfactory response to this prompt.)
Do you think science and religion ought to be strictly kept apart?
Do you think it is possible to be a scientist and a religious person at the same time?
What do you think about marginalization of women in the sciences and religious disciplines? Is this still the case? Do you find it problematic?
Is the pattern of claiming that everybody is equal and at the same time discriminating against some of those who are supposed to be equal a peculiarity of the Enlightenment period or can this kind of double-standard be observed in our time, too?
What do you think about reproductive technologies, contraceptives, and sex-enhancing/enabling drugs? Do these fields serve the needs of all genders equally or do they reflect gender bias?
