1. Popular literature is always an interesting source of images. What do you remember as being particularly vivid depictions of human-machine interactions? These might be books, movies, stories, art, or any other kind of visual image. Why did they impress you? What were the main goals of these images? How might these depictions affect how you yourself approach technology?

2. Ease of use is necessary for the success of most products and services. But ease of use is not always easy to define. What are some of the criteria that you would consider if you were developing a user interface? How can this approach be useful in understanding the design of information at the interface?

3. We have describes groupware as constituting an interesting set of problems for IT professionals today. What are some of these problems? What are some strategies and organization might adopt to manage groupware and its related problems? What are the main differences in turn-taking between two-way and multi-party conversations?

4. We have all had experiences with bad user interfaces whether in application software or on the web. What are some of your worst experiences with user interfaces (UIs)? What made them so bad? If you were designing a user interface (UI), what would you look at to determine the design and "usability" of the interface? From where would you get the information to develop your criteria?
