Case Briefing Paper
DELIVERABLE: A written case briefing analyzing the assigned case.
Carefully study the assigned case and after following the case method as discussed in class write a case briefing paper that includes the sections found below.
The report itself should be no longer than 1500 words excluding title page, appendices and references. You are not limited to the number of original work appendices you many include.
Be sure to show the work you have done, such as calculation of financial ratios or SWOT. The salient points from these should be referenced in the body of your report.
To stay within this limit and still do a thorough briefing, you are likely to use bullet points or charts for some sections. You must be as concise as possible.
Case Briefing Paper Sections
Title: Name of your paper based on your understanding of the reading.
Prepared for: Who is the decision maker?
Prepared by: Author, yourself
Group: Group Number
Executive Summary: Summarizes your work to follow in a few sentences.
Issue(s): Key issue(s) from the case to be solved
Situational Assessment Findings: Key findings from your situational assessment supported in the appendices.
Identification & Analysis of Strategic Options: Discuss the pros and cons of each option based on your thorough analysis supported in the appendices.
Recommendations: What do you propose the company or individual does?
Implementation: What action should the company or individual take next? What does the implementation plan look like?
Evaluation Criteria: How will the company or individual determine that their actions have been successful? What are the criteria or performance metrics they will use?
Appendices: Examples of appendices include but are not limited to:
• Appendix 1: Example Internal Review: SWOT, Key Competencies, Business Model etc
• Appendix 2: Example External Review: Five Forces of Competition
o Model, PESTEL etc
• Appendix 3: Example Financial Analysis: Ratios, Pro Formas, Break
o Even Calculations
• Appendix 4: Other
