John Black, a 12-year-old boy from a single parent home, was taken into custody at his school for bringing a gun to his classroom. The gun was found in John's backpack after two students went to the principal and reported that John had a gun.

John Black

A Juvenile

I don't understand what the big deal is. No one understands how hard it is to come to school. Everyone is picking on me and no one does anything. I have to protect myself.

The Principal

This is a very serious offense. What if you would have hurt someone? Why didn't you come to me if you were having problems? We cannot have this type of behavior in the school. I am sorry but you have been suspended and the school board will have to decide when you can come back.

Joann

A Single Mom

I can't believe you did this John! I am working so hard to take care of you and your brothers and sisters. Where did you get this gun? Why did you do this? Why didn't you come to me? I feel like I have failed as a parent! I don't know what is going to happen now that you cannot come back to school. What do you mean the police are going to take him? What happens now?

Mike Murphy

Police Officer

John I cannot believe I am meeting you again! What were you thinking? Do you realize that now you have to go to detention and go to court. I hope you realize that this is a very serious offense and that you have just made the biggest mistake of your life. If you don't start changing your ways now, you are going to spend the rest of your life in jail or you might end up getting yourself killed.
