Tangible property is something that you can touch so it's simple to define something that's of physical substance and who it belongs to. However, intellectual property is a thought or an idea someone had that turns into a product, a symbol, or some type of literary work. For instance, my daughter writes original music. Once she writes this music she creates a musical arrangement for the literary piece. She then records the lyrics with the music. Upon her recording, she copyrights her work so that she can legally say that the lyrics and musical arrangement belongs to her. If someone tried to use her music or lyrics, she could sue them for copyright infringement. She has documented proof that she's the owner/creater of the song.
