Discussion: Job Rotation for Development and Effective Training

Another interesting topic in this chapter is job rotation - job rotation for the purpose of developing the employee (not just to cross train or for scheduling ease).

The advantages that job rotation provides to an organization are numerous. Some of the advantages are a better understanding of companies goals, improved problem-solving skills, and a better understanding of company functions to name a few. Job rotation can be very important in the development of any employee for an organization, especially if the organization sees an employee they feel has long term goals with the company. On the other hand, job rotation can be hard to organize and is often better in theory than practice.

Have you ever been involved in job rotation in your organization? What do you feel are the biggest advantages of job rotation?
