Question: Looking at What Divided the Thirteen colonies If, in 1750, you had asked people from the thirteen colonies how they identified themselves, they would probably have first pointed to the nearest village or town, then to the colony they were part of. If you had asked how they saw themselves in relation to the rest of the world they would have said that they were British. Yet the colonies were distinct from each other both regionally and as individual colonies. And with those distinctions, loyalty followed. New Yorkers were loyal to and supporting the interests of New York, not "the thirteen colonies." Using the content pages, the textbook, and the primary sources, consider what factor accounts for the most difference among the three main regions of the colonies.
