Discussion Post: Education and Teaching Professional Dispositions
The disposition to teach has been identified as the most influential quality of highly effective educators. Dispositions are the values, commitments, and professional ethics that influence behaviors toward students, families, colleagues, and communities and affect student learning, motivation, and development as well as the educator's own professional growth.
Part I: Dispositions Self-Assessment Survey After reviewing the "Professional Dispositions of Learners," complete the "Dispositions Self-Assessment Survey" by checking the corresponding box to rank how you currently value each disposition on a scale from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree.
Part II: Video Submission For this assignment, you will create a video using any video recording device. Based on your understanding of your own dispositions, respond to the following questions in a 3-5 minute video submission:
Question A. What dispositions do you possess that you think will make you a successful teacher?
Question B. What dispositions do you need to work on before you enter the classroom as a first-year teacher? Provide an example of how you plan to uphold these dispositions in the classroom.
Question C. How do the dispositions demonstrate your ability to understand other cultures, genders, and learning differences to build stronger relationships with students and families? How do potential bias affect teaching?
Question D. How do you anticipate using feedback from your annual performance evaluations, observations, and data on student performance to adjust your dispositions and teaching practices to benefit learning?
