Problem
The world is filled with various nutritional supplement companies! Some are good, and others, maybe not so great! As discussed in your readings and lectures, the supplement industry is over a billion-dollar profit. Wow! Although, generally, supplements can be helpful in consideration towards an active lifestyle, it's essential to consider if those ingredients have been researched upon human consumption. Have the supplements you take or have taken been supported by science?
ATTENTION: Be specific when selecting a dietary supplement. Not just a "global term" supplement or ingredient; you need to be specific about what the supplement is and what brand it is. Select a BRANDED dietary supplement, then answer the questions below.
Example I: Do not just state energy drinks, caffeine, or pre-workout. What kind and brand? Cellucor C4 Ripped. Answer the questions below on Cellucor C4 Ripped.
Example II: Do not just state whey protein. What kind and brand? BSN Syntha-6 Isolate. Answer the questions below on BSN Syntha-6 Isolate.
A. What dietary supplement will you be discussing?
B. What's the main "marketing" or outcome of consuming this supplement? (i.e., energy, protein, mineral, etc)
C. What's the main ingredient of this dietary supplement?
D. What are the nutrient facts for this supplement? (include: calories, fats, carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, minerals, etc)
E. Is this dietary supplement supported by science? Furthermore, is this supplement supported by research in a third-party? (i.e, NSF; https://www.nsf.org/testing)
F. What's the supplement's website? Share the link to the direct supplements website, not an Amazon page. Share the brands page to the specific supplement you are discussing in the post.
If you have never consumed a dietary supplement, select a popular one of your choice and answer the questions. Before you randomly select a dietary supplement, think about it... you have likely consumed a "dietary supplement" and forgotten about it. Energy drink? That's a dietary supplement. Vitamin C pill? That's a dietary supplement. Whey protein after a workout? That's a dietary supplement. As mentioned, you've likely consumed a dietary supplement and didn't realize it. Think about it!
