They have since evolved from simple images and gifs to short video platforms like Vine and TikTok. While some memes are spread globally, meme culture has broken into many smaller meme subcultures. Whatever a meme's content is, the purpose is to communicate an idea, which can be used to share humor, opinions, mock, or advertise products.
