The goal of this assignment is to choose a film that depicts crime and/or deviance and reflect upon its content as it relates to the field of criminology. No Country for Old Men (2007)
1. Please begin with a brief synopsis (summary) of the film. Please focus on the key elements of the plot as they relate to crime and/or deviance. Summarize the film in your own words using notes taken while watching the film. Please provide in-text citations of your film, including a timestamp if a direct quote is used. 2. Please explain what crime(s) are commonly depicted in the film. Please consider whether these crimes are "conventional" or "non-conventional. Are they considered "deviant" or not? (why/why not). If your film is "historical (old)" please consider how that might impact your discussion. Please activity cite your textbook throughout this section. Please remember that each chapter is authored by someone different.
3. Please choose 2-3 specific crimes discussed in section #2 and explain where they would be situated on the "crime and deviance hierarchy" discussed in the first tutorial. Please justify your response by exploring the social harm of the action, the severity of societal response, and the agreement about the norm.
4. Please consider how the film portrays offender(s), victim(s) or the criminal justice system (CJS). Guided by Chapter 3 of your textbook, please choose one offender, victim, or component of our criminal justice system (police, courts, corrections) and discuss how it is "framed" in your film. What are the potential advantages and disadvantages of framing in this way?
