Assignment:

Farmer is an 85-year-old man and owns a main house he lives in and has a 2-story barn on the same property farm property. Farmer has an alarm system on both properties. But by the time Farmer hears the alarm and makes it to the barn the thief has left with the stolen property. The barn is approximately 75 yards from the main house. Farmer's barn has been broken into several times. Farmer to protect his farm animads and his property inside has attached a shotgun to the backdoor.

This is the door that thieves have been entering through. If the backdoor is forced open without a key the shotgun will go off. Two months ago Thief/Victim forced open the back door and the shotgun went off badly injuring him. Farmer found the Thief/Victim injured and called the police. The police arrived and arrested both Thief/Victim and Defendant/Farmer. Assume the farm is located in Central California.
